Bill Cowsert
Bill Cowsert was born in Jackson, Mississippi, September 1, 1958. He has lived in Athens for the past 28 years with his wife Amy, and their three children. He attended Presbyterian College and graduated B.S. Cum Laude in 1980; and the University of Georgia (J.D., 1983).

He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia; Western Circuit Bar Association; American Bar Association; Defense Research Institute; Georgia Defense Lawyers Association.

Bill has been practicing law in Athens for 24 years. He was previously a partner in the Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Bryant law firm. Bill established his own practice, William S. Cowsert, P.C. in 1995 which has now expanded to Cowsert & Avery, LLP which has seven attorneys handling a variety of legal matters with an emphasis on insurance defense work. The Firm practices throughout NE Georgia, with cases pending in 21 counties. Bill has been selected as a "Super Lawyer" by Atlanta Magazine, 2008.

He presently serves as a State Senator, District 46 (Clarke, Oconee, & Walton Counties)

Commitees: Appropriations, Judiciary & Higher Education. National Resources and Special Fiduciary. Bill also serves as a Senate Floor Leader for Governor Sonny Perdue.

Craig C. Avery
Craig C. Avery has 25 years experience in civil trial practice, specializing in insurance defense for the past 18 years. Mr. Avery has acted as sole defense counsel in over 250 jury trials in over 20 counties throughout N.E. Georgia. Mr. Avery recieved his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky, and his law degree from John Marshall Law School, cum laude. Mr. Avery is "AV" rated by Martindale-Hubbard and serves on the board of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association and is the past president of the Western Circuit Bar Association.

Susan S. Elder
Susan S. Elder is a partner with Cowsert & Avery, LLP and has been practicing with the firm for eleven years. She practices in the areas of insurance defense litigation, business law, probate, and estate planning. Ms. Elder received her undergraduate degree from Florida State University in 1992 and received her law degree and a Masters in Human Resources from the University of South Carolina in 1996. She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Western Circuit Bar Association, and the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association.

Michael Broun
Michael Broun is a life long Athenian and received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Georgia in 2003. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. During law school, Michael was an Associate Articles Editor for the Mississippi Law Journal, and he was a member of the Ole Miss Moot Court Board, Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity, and Federalist Society. Since joining Cowsert & Avery in 2006, he has engaged in a general trial practice, specializing in civil and criminal defense.

Colin Moriarty
Colin Moriarty grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia, and graduated from The College of William and Mary in 1995.  A love for music and guitar took him to Athens, where he played in bands and recorded music in his recording studio until 2002, at which point he decided to go to law school.

Colin graduated from Southwestern University School of Law, in Los Angeles, in 2005.  After graduating and taking the California Bar Exam, he moved right back to Athens.  He prosecuted misdemeanors in Athens as an Assistant Solicitor-General, with a focus on trials involving DUI and Domestic Violence.   Colin started with Cowsert & Avery in January of 2010, and his practice focuses on civil and criminal defense. 

Colin is a member of both the California and Georgia State Bars.

Colin Moriarty
